Who can Participate?
Participants who have completed WISE Course 1 through Ecolink Institute or another organization.
Concept Note:
WISE: Clinical Care for Women with Substance Use Disorders continues with Courses 2-4, building on the knowledge and skills developed in the first course. This advanced training focuses on the specific challenges women may face in substance use disorder treatment, including trauma, family relationships, parenting, different stages of life, and other specialised circumstances.
Across these courses, participants will develop practical, evidence-based approaches to provide trauma-responsive and family-centered care, understand the changing needs of women across the lifespan, and strengthen treatment services to become more responsive to women’s needs.
The training is designed to help professionals move beyond general approaches to substance use disorder treatment and develop a deeper understanding of how to support women through recovery with care that is responsive to their individual circumstances, strengths, families, and communities.

Aditi Ghanekar is a certified global trainer for WISE. She has over 25 years of clinical experience and has been a trainer for Colombo Plan and UNODC, besides serving as a faculty in Ecolink Institute too.

What You’ll Learn
Course 2: Trauma Responsive and Family-Centered Care for Women and Their Children
This course focuses on understanding trauma and its impact on women with substance use disorders, while developing practical approaches to trauma-responsive, parenting, and family-centered care.

Identifying women affected by trauma and integrating trauma-specific approaches into SUD treatment

Course 3: Caring for Women with Substance Use Disorders Across the Lifespan and in Specialized Circumstances
This course explores the changing treatment needs of women across different stages of life and in circumstances that may require specialised approaches to care.
Key areas include:

Women with special clinical needs across the lifespan

Treatment considerations for children, adolescents, young adults, middle-aged and older women

Working with women who are pregnant, sex workers, displaced, homeless, trafficked, or involved with the justice system

Treatment considerations for women with experiences of forced migration and displacement

Supporting women after military service

Cultural competency and cultural humility in working with women
Course 4: Creating and Implementing a Women-Responsive Substance Use Disorder Treatment
This course focuses on strengthening treatment services so that they respond effectively to the specific needs, strengths, and circumstances of women with substance use disorders.
