Concept Note:

"People First: Stop Stigma and Discrimination" is the UN theme of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26, 2023. This year's theme goes very with the need of the hour as structural and self-imposed stigma slows down the recovery process for those affected by Substance Use Disorder. Stigma is imposed at every stage of addiction and recovery, making it really hard for people in recovery and their family members. It is essential that a lot of public awareness is required for the general society to accept addiction as any other disease and address it in a healthy way. People First means persons first/ Let us avoid stigmatized languages and put persons first.

Ecolink Institute of Well-being and its more than 350 alumni groups from around the globe join with the ISSUP community to discuss Social Stigma with a Panel discussion. Almost all the panel members are ICAP-certified Ecolink Alumna who will be moderated by Dr.Thirumagal V, the global trainer and the training consultant to Ecolink Institute.

The panelists and their topics are given below:
Ashwin Thind (Malaysia): Structural Stigma & People first,
Grant Sanders (Hongkong):  Fighting Self Stigma,
Dr. Shiva Anoop Yella (India):  Social Stigma from medical perspective

Vikas Sharma (India): Coping with stigma in Recovery,
