Introduction: The recent World drug Report by UNODC indicated an average 30 percent growth in the Substance Use Disorder cases around the Globe in the past decade while the population increase was only less than 10 percent. However, there have been a dearth in the number of addiction professionals in the world who can cater to the growing demand for treatment and rehabilitation services. There is a great demand for certified addiction professionals in the world and most developed and developing countries are hiring certified addiction professionals to meet the demand. Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Programme with funding assistance from INL, US Department of State have developed the Universal Treatment Curriculum (UTC) on Substance Use Disorder with global experts in the field, based on Evidence Based Practices. The syllabus and UTC training are now been imparted in more than 80 countries. Professionals who complete this course are eligible to apply for International credentialing from the Global Center for Certification and Credentialing (GCCC) under the Colombo Plan and become an Internationally Certified Addiction Professional (ICAP).
